Summary

SQA Logo SmallOnline Activity: 9 April 2010 to 22 April 2010
Face-to-face Activity: Friday 23 April 2010

Scottish Baccalaureates in Science and Languages were introduced for the first time in August 2009.

Lorna Grant, Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) New Baccalaureates Development Manager, and college practitioners who delivered the Scottish Baccalaureates in 2009/2010 will be available to answer questions and share their experiences.

The course will give delegates the opportunity to find out more about the awards and what has happened in the first year of delivery. Presentations will be given by the SQA Development Manager and by college practitioners who have worked in partnership with schools to deliver the Scottish Bacclaureates. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and network.

On the start date of the online activity, an email will be sent to delegates with instructions on how to create an account with SQA Academy.

Online activities will be a mixture of articles to read, quizzes, discussion forums and reflection exercises. There will only be approximately two hours of online work to be done before the face-to-face workshop.

The SQA has developed what is called the SQA Academy to extend and enhance the training and development opportunities available to all those who contribute to the assessment processes that underpin the qualifications of the SQA.

To ensure that this course is developed to meet the needs of Scotland's schools and colleges, Scotland's Colleges has linked with the SQA Academy to combine their knowledge, skills and experience to create this staff development course.

This course uses the blended learning approach with both online and face-to-face learning activities.  Delegates are provided with many opportunities to reflect on their learning and teaching practice in a supported environment whilst gaining accreditation for CPD hours.  Throughout the course and beyond the focus is on the impact this professional development activity will have on the learners' experience in school/college.

Aims

  • to provide centres with information on the development and structure of the Baccalaureates
  • to support centres as they prepare for the assessment and quality assurance of the Interdisciplinary Project
  • opportunity to discuss ideas for the delivery of the Interdisciplinary Project, and to network with colleagues.
