Summary
Online Activity: Friday 26 February 2010 to Thursday 11 March 2010
Face-to-Face Activity: Friday 12 March 2010
This course will support schools and colleges in considering how best they can deliver Managing Environment Resources (MER) units/courses in light of Curriculum for Excellence (CfE). MER qualifications contribute to successful learning by building on the learners existing knowledge of their local area and extending this to national and international environmental issues. This knowledge of the natural world, along with a consideration of land and resource use, fosters responsible citizenship. The opportunity to participate in fieldwork, investigations and debate, encourages learners to become confident individuals and effective contributors.
MER qualifications allow learners to progress from a consideration of local issues to national and international issues and allow an element of choice in fieldwork and investigations. Independent research is encouraged, while the broad range of topical issues and the dynamic nature of the courses provide ample opportunity for depth, challenge, and enjoyment.
Workshops
Each workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss issues on practical investigations. Parameters are set in each MER Arrangements document on how a practical investigation should proceed in order to meet the criteria for a candidate to be successful. To help you interpret these criteria, in each workshop, there will be an opportunity to examine exemplar investigations for the appropriate MER course and you will be asked to take part in a ‘verification' exercise using checklists.
There will, of course, be an opportunity to raise any concerns you may have with the Principal Assessor.
