Summary
Online Activity: Monday 6 September at 4pm.
Face-to-face Activity: Tuesday 14 September and Wednesday 15 September 2010
The two days are stand alone events. Delegates have the option to attend day 1, day 2 or both days.
This is a blended learning induction course for new and returning national qualification (NQ) lecturers. Day 1 will focus on SQA policy and procedures involved in the delivery of NQs. Day 2 will highlight the key features and attributes of the learning process. There will be an emphasis on current learning theory and how this translates into practice for NQs.
Before attending Day 1 of the course delegates will be invited to participate in an introductory web conference at 4pm on Monday 6 September (this will take approximately 30 minutes). Delegates will be instructed on how to access the online materials which will include familiarisation with the SQA and contribution to discussion forums. The online materials can be explored at any time before attending the face-to-face event on Tuesday 14 September and will take no more than two hours to complete.
Aim of the Event - Day 1 (Tuesday 14 September 2010)
- to provide an overview of the structure of NQs so that lecturers can effectively advise learners on where to begin their college studies and how to plan progression routes
- to allow lecturers to explore the NQ system of units, courses and group awards in the context of their own discipline so that they gain insight into the most appropriate courses to meet the needs of their learners
- to explain the internal and external assessment arrangements in NQs ensuring that students satisfy SQA's criteria to gain certification
- to consider the internal and external verification processes in colleges so that lecturers and learners are confident that they are working to the national standard
- to provide delegates with the opportunity to explore exciting new ways to enhance the learning and teaching experience.
Aim of the Event - Day 2 (Wednesday 15 September 2010)
- to consider the future of NQs in light of Curriculum for Excellence (CfE)
- to consider how to raise learner attainment whilst developing skills for learning, life and work
- to support new lecturers in improving learners' levels of confidence and motivation.
